We all know that Friends is one of the best series to have dominated our small screens… in the entire history of the French Audiovisual Landscape. And if you don’t agree, you can leave. Okay? All right? Bye! Bye!
One of our biggest dreams is to live in Friends‘ New York, have a coffee in Central Perk and spend the afternoon talking on the orange sofa with six of our closest friends: Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey.
And now, this dream will become a reality!
Well, almost. We can’t really spend the afternoon with Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey, since they’re fictional characters (it sucks when it happens), but we can really get a kawa at Central Perk!
Warner Bros. will collaborate with the Eight O’Clock Coffee brand to grant us our greatest wish and allow us to live in the world of Friends by opening a Central Perk pop-up store to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Friends’ arrival on American screens. (Yes, it’s been 20 years… we’ll give you a moment to get used to it!)
For this event properly named “The One with the Free Coffee”, an identical replica of the coffee that we know so well and that served as a backdrop for 10 seasons in the famous series, will distribute free Eight O’ Clock coffee cups, including a limited edition Central Perk specially created for the occasion.
All Friends fans who are lucky enough to live in New York City will be able to visit the Central Perk Café at 199 Lafayette Street on the corner of Broome Street in Manhattan’s SoHo district. The doors will be open to the public on Wednesday, September 17, after a press only inauguration on Monday and Tuesday, September 15 and 16, and will remain open until Saturday, October 18. Central Perk will be open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm, and on weekends from 10 am to 8 pm.
And this shop will offer much more than free coffee (which is already a good point). Fans will also be able to discover some of the accessories that were used to shoot the series, on the front of the store, sit on the mythical orange sofa, listen to “Smelly Cat”, win prizes thanks to contests organized in the store, and they will even be able to talk to one of the stars of Friends, James Michael Tyler, alias Gunther! Yes, Central Perk would be nothing without its famous barista (if you ask yourself the question, he won’t make the coffee, he’ll just enjoy it.)
If you are a fan of Friends and don’t live in New York, book a flight as soon as possible! This is an opportunity that will not happen again! But there are cheaper ways to celebrate Friends‘ 20th birthday, fans can also buy limited edition coffee in supermarkets, merchandising stores and on the web.
